A Day Away

Our little man has gone from being a train fanatic to he can't get enough of monster trucks! We decided to take him to the monster truck show at the Maverick Center a few weekends ago. So Grandma, Pa, Daddy and Tate climbed in Colby's truck and headed to SLC. First we went and ate at PF Changs, which is our favorite. It doesn't seem like we can make a trip to SLC without stopping there. Tate loved everything we ate. He especially liked the egg drop soup, attempting to eat with chopsticks, the Dan Dan Noodles and Changs Spicy Chicken. He definitely is his Daddy's boy!

Then we made a mad dash to West Valley to see the show! Tayten was in heaven. The rest of us thought it was a little lame-o, but watching his little face and his excitement was well, priceless! Every truck that was there broke down at one point or the other. They did manage to get a few going again, and Tate loved when they had to be towed out of the arena. Grandma made sure that he had his "scary" flag to wave like all the other kids, and boy did he wave it! He would clap after every single jump and giggled continuously. As you can see in some of the photos, not so many people joined us for an afternoon of monster trucks but who cares! We had a blast.

To this day, when Tate is at my house he asks to see the pictures from the "show" and he will look at them over and over. He asks me to tell him about that day, and all the things that happened. We talk about him eating soup, his "ears" Daddy bought him, and the trucks breaking down. At the end he always says " I want to go there again, to Monster Truck Show, Grandma!" Me too, Tate.... Me too!

One snowy, more like rainy January afternoon Tayten was having some serious tractor riding withdrawals. So what's a Grandma to do? Move both cars out of the garage and let him go for a ride! He was so excited, as you can see from the ear to ear grin on his precious little face! Totally took away our winter blues for awhile! His little smile is too cute, not to post them all.

This was on Saturday night at Hobby Lobby! I took so many pictures on my phone and these are the best 3. Hard to believe I know with my little rock star picture taker, but not this night! We also learned that Hobby Lobby is not the place for a 2 1/2 year old. Tate kept saying "I touch it, Grandma I touch it!" He is such a heart melter, I can hardly stand his cuteness! This rather wide, long load was making it's way from Pocatello to Kennecott Copper Mine awhile ago. Colby works for Cache Valley Electric on their road crew! He was in charge of this load all the way from Pocatello to Kennecott. We drove up to the UT/ID border so we could show Tayten the truck and huge trailer! Also, a good excuse to go eat at L.D.'s! It took almost a whole week to get this from start to finish. Here are many pictures of Colby doing his thing as the truck made it's way down Logan Main Street! Proud Mama!

Our little man loves his nails painted. I usually end up giving in and painting them. It probably doesn't make his Mom to happy but he loves it! This time was on a pre-season Denver Bronco game so we thought he could show his Dad's team some love! Go Broncos!

PS- I picked him up one afternoon a few weeks ago, put him in his carseat and he told me "Peyton Manning." Ha Ha, His stepdad's team is the Colts! So of course, we taught him Tim Tebow! He has the cutest little Colts and Broncos jerseys!

Tayten likes to help me in the kitchen..... a lot! He will stir, pour ingredients, stir and more stirring. He loves it. One morning we were making rice krispie treats and he wanted to have a turn to stir. He stirred and stirred and tasted for a really long time. At some point every time he decides to share with Bella. This causes him to "spoon" the krispies onto the floor for her. He laughs this big huge laugh when they happen to land on her head instead of the floor. It is awesome! How can I say no to that?

I have been going through my pictures most of the weekend and I came across these. One day I was heading to work and saw this out my back window. I grabbed my camera and went and stood in the backyard and they didn't even care. Bella & Cabo were going nuts and the deer weren't even phased. Thanks to them I hardly had any tulips bloom this spring. I wish they would eat weeds and not flowers! Completely domesticated animals. :(

Well, it has been a whole month since I have posted something on my bloggity blog, and one of my besties has been kindly encouraging me to do so..... so here goes..... This will be a post of M.A.N.Y pictures and yes, that is because I as Tate's Grandma I had a hard time choosing because a- he is the most photogenic child and b- he once again when he sees the camera he flashes that heart melting smile for me! So yes, Lotsa Pictures, Little Words.

Each Summer Colby gets Tate for one week of uninterrupted Daddy/Son time! Colby took the whole last week of July off from work and we headed to Bearadise. I think this is the name that is going to stick for the new cabin. It does feel like paradise at Bear Lake so Bearadise it is. It is gorgeous over there and the weather was perfect! Sunny, hot and blue lake and skies.

We did a lot of swimming, in the pool, hot tub and we went to the "beach" at the marina one day. The lake has risen 11 feet this year so far and created 9 new square miles of boating pleasure but that private beach we went to last year and any beaches for that matter are gone! Under water! There are signs everywhere that say "Beach Closed, High Water". Tate loved everything we did, and that's why this post has close to 50 pictures. Grandma could not choose!

As you can tell from Tate's owie I am really far behind in blogging. These pictures were taken clear back in March. For the last 9 weeks or so Colby & Andy have been playing in a rec basketball league in Smithfield. Alyson, my Mom and I would go out and support the boys each Tuesday night. This was the week after my surgery so I wasn't supposed to lift Tate, so Auntie Al stepped in and took care of Tayten during the game. As you can see he just really wanted to run out on the court with the ball and play with his Daddy. The season ended last night, and I hope that they will play together on a team again.

We had a little party for Tayten at his Daddy's house on Thursday night. Colby has spent the last few months remodeling his entire house and a few weekends ago he moved back home. Tate got his first lacrosse stick, which we hope will be the first of many. Hopefully he will follow in Uncle Andy's footsteps and play High School lacrosse. Tate calls it a "hoop". I think it is the netting that makes him think it is a hoop. Andy and Al showed him some slick moves and really quickly he was able to toss the ball right out of the stick. Smart boy.

As you probably already know Tate LOVES trains. It doesn't have to be Thomas, in fact I have never even heard him say "Thomas", they are all just trains or choo choos to him. Colby bought him these adorable Thomas big boy underwear and Aunty Al thought he needed to try them out over his diaper. He was a little shy and unsure but his little legs and backside looked so cute!!

He got so many train things and other gifts. He also got an adorable Hurley outfit from Grandma & Grandpa Thomson. Can't wait to see him wearing that at the lake.

Daddy surprised him with a power wheels tractor & trailer. Tate loved it so much! He was so patient while Aunt Al went to work with the power tools to put it together. As you can see he thought he was pretty hot stuff. He would try to stand on it and jump off. No fear for this kid!(Yes, he has gum in his mouth, in most of these pictures)

Al had to get going to a Vistauns meeting, so we lit the candles and sang Happy Birthday. When we were singing he was very shy and embarrassed and the first time he wouldn't blow the candles out without Daddy right by his side, but then he wanted to blow them out again and again. I think I re-lit those candles at least ten times so he could blow them out. He started out tasting his cake with one finger, then two fingers and then he leaned right in and took a big bite, right out of the side of the cake. That's my boy! He asked for a "poon" I offered him a fork and a spoon, he took the fork from me and demolished the cake while saying "Nummy, Nummy!" in between bites.

I can't wait to see him on Monday night now that the tractor battery is all charged up and ready to roll.

Happy 2nd Birthday to my little man. I love you more than anything, sweet boy!

On this long Memorial Weekend when we are all trying not to be crabby about the crappy weather, and all we want is a day or two full of warm sunshine, we all need to stop, take a minute or more and remember how blessed we are that our weather only consists of cold temperatures and rain drops and say a prayer for the people whose lives have been completely and totally devastated and changed forever. We still have our homes, to protect us from the rain and cold, we have our families and so many more blessings. Think about it! I know I will be.

Tuesday afternoon I was sitting at work and really quickly felt very feverish and had a strong backache on my right side. Seriously, one minute I am fine having a conversation etc... and within a few minutes I feel horrible. Unfortunately, I have had too much experience with these symptoms and I knew exactly what it was. I had a kidney infection. No warning, boom and there it is. I left work early that day and went home, laid on the heating pad and contemplated the thought of going to the Instacare which is a whole bunch more $$$$ than waiting until the morning and paying for an office visit.

So I took some pain pills, slept on the heating pad and then headed to the Dr. in the morning. Yep, sure enough I had once again diagnosed myself correctly. The Dr's always seem so surprised that I am right. By now, they should just call in the Levaquin and save me the $$$$ for the office visit and let me put the letters MD behind my name.

I have been on the Levaquin now 24 hours and I am feeling much better. Fever gone, backache still lingering but that will go away soon. They want me to see a specialist again, yeah, yeah yeah.

I am ready to trade in my old, defective, sickly kidney for a shiny new one... right off the kidney lot. What's the blue book on a used, highly ineffecient kidney these days?

But, I am! I did not get up at 2 early o'clock to watch the Royal Wedding, but last night I did set not one but two timers to record the royal happenings. There were so many channels airing this royal event so Jason and I chose to record the coverage on the BBC (we figured it would be the most royal & british??) and of course we had to get the live E Entertainment coverage with Giuliana Rancic! I fast forwarded (to the good parts this morning before work) the E coverage and it did not disappoint. Some of my favorite parts of the coverage are below, and I just don't have words for what Princess Eugenia, Beatrice and Victoria Beckham had on their heads. How in the heck do they stay on? I am fascinated by the Fascinators, are you? I loved Pippa's dress, and Her Majesty the Queen looked lovely in yellow. I have at least 12 hours of coverage to "tivo" through when I get home tonight, and guess that won't be a problem since it is snowing out my window right now! Cheerio!

Meet the new Sky View Vistaun coaches! Britt Johnson & our, Alyson Croft. Britt is Alyson's sister, she is the head coach and Alyson is her assistant. Last week they held try outs and had a ton of girls come. Britt & Al both did drill team when they attending Bonneville High School, so now they will get to experience it from the coaches perspective. I think they are in for a bunch of hard work, but a lot of fun too! I have only cheered for Sky View when Riley and Ash played sports, but now Kenz and I will be there cheering on Britt and Al's girls. Go Vistauns!

Yesterday Was A Good Bus Day!

Every Tuesday and Thursday I get the pleasure of picking up Tate from his Mom for our visits! He is such a smart little kid, that he knows where every bus stop is, where every school bus is parked for the night, and let me tell you he can spot a bus of any kind at least a block away! Our boy is a genius! Yesterday it was a 17 BUS day! We hit the jackpot with driving by the CVTD terminal at just the right time! We saw 10 CVTD buses, 6 school buses and 1 commercial tour bus on our way home yesterday for a total of 17 buses! You have never seen a happier kid! I have looked all over "matchbox" or "hotwheel" type cars that are buses. If anyone knows where I can find some, please let me know! Tate would love to add these to his train and tractor collection.

On March 9th my nephew Riley received and opened his mission call. Andy had such an incredible mission we have said for the last 3 years "we hoped Riley could go to the West Indies too!" When Andy got his mission call to the West Indies mission, the hymn I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go, took on a different meaning for me. The part that says "it may not be on a mountain height, or over the stormy sea" always hits home with me as Andy got called to the islands of the Carribbean Sea.Riley has been called to serve for 2 years in the Dominican Republic Santo Domingo West, spanish speaking mission. He too has been called to the Carribbean Sea. I am so grateful that I was able to be released from the hospital that day and be there when he opened his call. To see the look on his face, as he read the words from our Prophet was so special. I will never forget it! He truly will be a remarkable missionary. The people in the Dominican Republic that are waiting, just for Riley to teach them the gospel,are very lucky! Riley reports to the MTC in Provo on 6/15/11 and will be there about 8 weeks learning Spanish. We are all so proud of him and his choice and dedication to serve a mission.

Today is Colby's 28th birthday! He made me a mom. I am so proud of the person he has grown up to be. He is a hard worker, kind, generous, a family man, genuine and the most amazing father to Tayten. Tayten is his heart and his life! As Colby's mother it is so touching to see how this little boy lights up when he sees Colby. They are definately 2 peas in a pod. Their similarities are crazy, there are so many!

Last night we went out to celebrate Colby's birthday since Alyson and Kenzie have to work tonight. We went to the Iron Gate grill with my parents, our family & Aunt Ne Ne.

So I have definately been MIA for awhile. Actually to me the last 10 days have been a blur and have passed so quickly. Time flies, when you are down and out I guess.

I had surgery early in the morning last Tuesday... and so did my mother. I was on one side of the surgical center and she was on the other. We kept my Dad busy going from room to room, but he made us both feel very safe, secure and definately had a calming effect on my anxiety level.I am not going to go into the details of my surgery or why I opted for the surgery over some other possible procedures. I will say the surgery was successful, and I felt great afterward.

I stayed one night in the Womens Center at LRH. One of the highlights of my stay was that my IV went bad after 12 hours. The Nursing Supervisor was called in to start a new one. After 4 needle sticks into very very tiny veins and a call to my Dr. to find out if I really needed an IV still, of course he said YES, she came back in and gave it one more "college' try.She finally got it started in the tinest vein ever. OUCH! In the morning I was begging my Dr. to let me go home by nine. Who doesn't prefer their own bed over a hospital one. It was fun to get to see all the new babies being pushed around in their little beds by the their mothers, who were all doing that "new mom" walk. You all know what that looks, right?

I was doing well, enough to get all dolled up and out to a family gathering (which will be in an upcoming post) the day I was released.So glad I was able to make that one! Thursday night my little bug, Tayten came for a visit and he was the best medicine EVER! On Friday around noon I woke up from a nap with a fever of 101.2 and immediately called my Dr. Of course, he said come right in, this isn't normal at all. When it comes to medical things, I never do anything that is normal. If there is a complication, I'm going to have it. He took one look at me and told me to go to the ER, for a CT scan, IV and he would be admitting me through the ER. Looked like I was spending more time in LRH.

After about 6 hours, several tests, IV fluids and some of the strongest anitbiotics known to man, I once again was begging them to let me go home, remember I really like my bed so much more. We came to a compromise. I would stay one more hour for another dose of the "strong stuff" and go home with the IV in my hand for further treatment the next day.I agreed if the fever was not gone, or I felt like I had not turned the corner I would go back to the ER in the morning. Either way I was to go back to 1- have more meds, or 2- to have them remove the IV.

Saturday morning I felt a tiny bit better and was not having any fever. I hung around at home all day on Saturday, laying low, watching some really cute movies that are out, and watching Tayten just be his cute little self. Andy and Al came over that night and the IV had started to ache, which I knew meant my "tiny tiny" vein that they had threaded it into was going bad. So I unwrapped and untaped the IV, had Nurse Alyson pull it out and Andy immediately applied the pressure! IV out!
I have done a lot of nothing, resting and TV/movie watching which is exactly what the Dr. told me to do. I finally feel today that I am headed down the road to recovery but now I understand why they say this is a 3-8 week recovery time and put such limitations on what you are able to do on a daily basis. I am so glad to have this behind me. Maybe 2011 will be a good year after all.

Look Grandma, two hands! I can make the juice and drink my juice all at the same time! Tayten loves to help me stir whatever I am making. Waffles and eggs are his favorite but he never misses out on the chance to make juice either. He pretty much is my little kitchen sidekick no matter what I am doing, including the dishes.

Our dogs really don't have many rules to abide by, but there is one thing that is a huge No No at our house and that is getting on the upstairs couch! It is a fabric couch and they like to climb up on the cushions and they totally smash them down.Plus Aggie and Cabo are huge shedders.This little pic was captured with my cell phone one morning as I came down to leave for work. I know the little white dog, Bella looks totally innocent, but she is the naughty ring leader of our pack! She knows I can't get mad at her, it's her house and we get to live with her!

I took these pictures the last time we went to Bear Lake, so I think late January. Back when we were having many long days of inversion in the good ole' CV. I took these as we were driving down the canyon, back to Logan. It was so sunny in the canyon, inversion in Bear Lake and inversion in the valley. It was nice to see some sun that Saturday afternoon.

Almost 2 weeks ago I spent several hours with a pair of needle nose pliers taking out each and every little bead that attached Kenzie's fake hair (extensions) to her head! Let's just say I don't know who it was the most painful for! Anyway, I think she is perfection with her natural shorter hair! I also heard there is a boy who thinks she is "sexy" with short hair! How come her mom, brothers, sister in law, etc. etc. tell her she totally works the short hair but until one or two boys say it, she won't believe it? Kenz tells us we are "obligated" to say it! Sometimes the truth doesn't hurt, it just means you are beautiful!

Friday Tayten had a play date with David. They got along really well, without hardly any jealousy at all. We only heard the word "mine" a few times from Tayten, and it was so cute to see him play and have a blast with another little boy! It is tough enough to get one toddler to look at the camera and smile let alone two!

What are you to do on a Saturday morning with a fresh 2 feet of snow outside, when you wanted to drive to Bear Lake to check what progress has been made over there.

It's simple really, you get to make your first ever couch cushion fort with your Daddy! Then you laugh and crawl through the tunnel, sit in the tunnel and chat with your Daddy.

And then when you are having the time of your life, an uninvited visitor enters your new fort and..

Your fort turns into a pile of cushions that no longer resemble your tunnel/fort at all.The Villain..

I know every kid on the planet does this, but when Tayten does it there is nothing funnier or cuter! I'm just sayin'! He will get in my closet and pull out one pink shoe, and one gym shoe put them on, find Grandpa Jason's hat and put it on (sideways of course) and then wave and tell me "BYE" as he heads out of my room and down the hall.Still havent managed to catch this one on camera yet, or him in Daddy's hard hat (adorable),but he will be spending this weekend with us so I will be ready for all the photo ops!! Can't wait! Here he is in Daddy's big shoes! Couldn't you just squeeze those legs?

Pushing It

Yesterday when I got home from picking Tayten up he immediately spied this mud puddle. Being the boy that he is, he headed straight for it. I told him, no no and continued to get his things out of the car. I turned around again and he was inching ever closer, thinking I wasn't noticing his sneaking to the puddle. As you can see he got right to the edge of the puddle, his toes are even hanging over the puddles edge a bit. This is where he stopped, turned and looked at me, and he knew he had gotten his way once again! Little Turkey!

My little material girl has become management material! My baby girl is growing up and has been promoted to Manager at Famous Footwear!

My sweet gorgeous daughter has worked at Famous for over 2 years and she has accepted an offer of promotion to management! Where have the years gone?

My baby is climbing the corporate ladder... I am one proud Mama!

This probably means there will be a lot more of these finding a home in Kenzie's crowded closet!
